Under the category of encouraging the arts, Story Brewhouse is launching a Six Pack of Stories….short stories to be read with a beer in hand. Here are the details:
In recent years, we've seen an explosion of creativity in the craft beer community, both in the development of new styles and in how breweries have integrated themselves with the visual arts, music, and other forms of creative expression. But the combination of beer and creative writing has been left largely unexplored. That is, until now.
Story Brewhouse LLC is seeking submissions for the anthology A Six Pack of Stories - a collection of creative short stories that feature beer in meaningful ways. How did beer shape the world, or how will it shape the world of the future? How does it help people connect to one another, and how can it drive us apart? How do we interact with beer in our lives, in both profound and seemingly trivial ways?
A Six Pack of Stories will be published in electronic and hard copy formats in early 2013.
Submission Guidelines
We are looking for short stories of all genres and lengths (though stories longer than 10,000 words will be a harder sell). Humorous, dramatic, dark, frightening - it's all on the table. The only hard criterion is that beer play an integral role in the story.
Submissions will be accepted through October 26th, 2012. Some stories may be shortlisted during the submission period, but final decisions will not be made until November 30th.
Submissions should be sent as .doc or .docx files in standard manuscript format. Send submissions to storybrewhouse@gmail.com. Include the word SUBMISSION in the subject line.
We will consider submissions from any writer, previously published or not.
We will consider stories that have been published elsewhere, so long as the story is eligible for republication.
Sorry, but we will not consider simultaneous submissions.
We will accept a maximum of two stories from a single author.
Author Payment
At Story Brewhouse, we think of our authors as partners, and our payment structure is established accordingly. In addition to receiving a free copy of the book, 50% of profits generated from the sale of the anthology will be split among authors based on the proportional word counts of the their stories, with a lifetime maximum of 10 cents per word to each author. Payment will be disbursed every six months.
Put another way, 50% of money generated from book sales every six months, minus printing, promotional, and setup expenses incurred during that time, will be split up among the authors based on how many words comprise their stories.
Rights
Story Brewhouse requires the first print and digital rights to any stories accepted for the anthology, along with exclusivity for two years following the date of publication. After two years, you may submit your story to other markets. Story Brewhouse LLC may republish the story at any point in the future.
