Exciting expansion news from Fat Heads Brewing…
We’ve just installed two new 10bbl fermenters in the back of our brewpub! Moving the bottling line to our production brewery opened up a bit of space, but after this we’ll be about maxed out. Unfortunately, Ohio’s climate isn’t too favorable for outdoor fermenters. The plan is to keep Belgian beers in the new tanks so keep an eye out for your favorites. Having two dedicated tanks will make Belgian yeast management between our two breweries much easier.
We also installed a larger heat exchanger which “theoretically” should help us cool our beers quicker on their way to the fermenter. We’re still trying to fine tune that process.
A hop strainer was added after the kettle to catch any loose particles before they can get clogged in the heat exchanger or end up in the tank. This will help with beers like Head Hunter IPA and Hop JuJu Imperial IPA that have ridiculous hopping rates.
Finally, a flow meter was added in the fermentation room to give us more control over how much wort (unfermented beer) we put into the tanks. Precision equipment like this gives us actual data to make empirical decisions instead of guessing.
This past week has been like Christmas in the brewery! Speaking of Christmas, keep an eye out next week for our Christmas Ale in July at the brewpub…
