WILKFridayBerbuzz14We broke a record today on the WILK Friday BeerBuzz, and we had a lot of fun doing it.  For the last 2 years, our friend Chuck Yarmey has quietly been the Alec Baldwin of the BeerBuzz; and today he takes the lead.  Much like Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin have battled for hosting the most Saturday Night Live shows, Chuck & Mike Hiller from Bavarian Barbarian Brewing have traded the lead on the BeerBuzz…and now Chuck is winning with 4-appearances today (to Mike’s 3.)

Chuck is founder and former president of the Wyoming Valley Home Brewers and we always have a great time talking home brews with him.  It’s taken us most of 2 years to convince John Webster that home-brewed beer doesn’t usually explode, but it only took us one visit to convince us all that home brewed beer can be VERY good.
[image[8].png]Last May we invited Chuck back with the WILK Friday BeerBuzz challenge beers, but more importantly we celebrated the 24th Annual National Homebrewers Day.  Today we start the celebration of the 25th National Homebrewers Day.  This is a big milestone for Home brewing, and once again our local clubs will contribute to The Big Brew. 

The Big Brew is a collection of all of our national home brew clubs and their brewing of three official recipes designated by the national organizers all on the same day.

Today we decided to go with a zero-IBU show and feature some ancient ales.  First up was a Summerian beer that uses bappir, a type of bread baked with honey & barley AND used to make the beer.  Chuck was nice enough to also bring some bappir for us to try as well, which really gives you a sense of how the bread & grain flavor the beer.  As a bonus, Chuck brought one of Jeff Fusco’s 3-year aged Meads into drink.  A Mead is a honey based beverage and this one was a really good one.

    I've always wanted to brew my own beer. You guys keep not only convincing e it's easy, but REALLY INTERESTING too. Who knew you can do ancient beers? Marty

    Thanks to Chuck Yarmey and Jeff Fusco and all the members of the Wyoming Valley Homebrewers Club.

    It was a thrill to taste the modern day version of what is probably the first beer in all of recorded history! Way to go Sumeria!

    And that mead is just sweet enough (but with sufficient horsepower) that it should come with a disclaimer. Both great!

    Thanks to Bill from MyBeerBuzz.com for producing a show each week that has garnered two major awards (neither a leg lamp but we remain optimistic) for the WILK FBB! Thanks too, to Bosco and Rusty Fender.

    I started homebrewing because of the Friday beer buzz show. I love it and while my 1st batch wasn't great, a year later they are getting pretty good. Ryan.

    As always I had a great time on the show!! Thanks to everyone for having me on again to promote homebrewing. While today's selections weren't exactly "marketable" to the masses, it showed that you can make ANY kind of beer you want when you brew your own. I'm glad to see there are people like Ryan who have decided to give it a try because of the the show.
