3 Floyds Scouting Pub Locations & Co-Brewed “Rye Da Tiger” & European Pub w/Mikkeller

imageIn an interview for the Chicago Tribune, Nick Floyd of 3 Floyds said they are scouting pub locations in Chicago, Europe, Copenhagen, London & even Amsterdam.  This from the Chicago Tribune:

The most revelatory news is that owner Nick Floyd is scouting locations to open a Three Floyds brewpub in Chicago. He has been looking at spaces during the last couple of weeks, and though coy about the where ("anywhere but the Loop") and when ("the near future"), he sounded resolute about it happening.

Floyd said he also plans to open a pub in Western Europe with Mikkel Borg Bjergso, the Dane behind Mikkeller beer. Floyd mentioned Copenhagen, London and Amsterdam as possibilities.

Floyd loves travel, just returned from a hop-buying trip to New Zealand and isn't so impressed with the Portland, Ore., beer scene these days — and yes, those thoughts are connected.

First, New Zealand: Floyd considers New Zealand hops "a secret weapon," providing unique flavors and aromas, like kumquat and lycee, beyond the usual pine and citrus we often get from American hops. New Zealand hops will feature prominently in a new Three Floyds beer that will be released this summer: Rye Da Tiger, which is essentially an imperial rye India pale ale.  Full details here.
