It was fun to finally hook up with Southern Tier Brewing founder and brew master Phin Demink on today’s show. We’ve been working schedules for months to finally get to chat with Phin, and it was worth the wait.
Southern Tier Brewing makes some of what I consider to be the most creative and flavorful brews distributed in PA, so it was a difficult choice to feature just one beer. From their Crème Brule to their Pumking, I really like them all, but given that we’re a morning show, we thought Southern Tier Mokah would be perfect.
Mokah is part of Southern Tier’s Black Water Series and it is a wonderful blend of their JAHVA coffee imperial stout and their Choklat chocolate imperial stout…and the blend is wonderful. Just enough coffee to make it’s presence known, a delicate touch of milk chocolate that lays on your palate and the big bold imperial stout to back it all up. Mokah is not only big in flavor, it’s big in ABV coming in at 11% ABV so share this one with a friend or two…or perhaps a morning beer show team.
It was not only fun chatting with Phin about Choklat, but also some of the upcoming plans for Southern Tier. I’m excited to hear about the growth of Southern Tier and some of the plans they have for the future (with their brewery and beers).
Thanks
to Phin Demink from Southern Tier Brewing, Nancy, John, Joe, and Bosco for yet another fun Friday.

I love Pumking! I never heard of Phin before today and I always wondered who Phin & Matt were. Once again WILK brings us a great beer guy on the radio. Cheers Phin!

Southern Tier has a knack for blending. I like their Pumking beer A LOT. Wondered how I'd go for a beer with coffee in it but Mokah is the 'just right' mix of coffee and Belgian chocolate! It's excellent!
ReplyDeleteThanks to Phin Demink for being on the show today and as always to Bill from MyBeerBuzz.com for making it happen, and most of all to you for listening to The Friday BeerBuzz on WILK!
Best,
John

ReplyDeleteI just had this beer last weekend. I love it. It's 11% but the flavor is amazing. I love it when you bring on a guest from a beer I love.

ReplyDeleteMe too Kim. Thanks for tuning in.
ReplyDeleteIMHO the Black Water series from Southern Tier is among the best. I love stouts and these are all fantastic. Ron
ReplyDeleteI agree Ron...these beers are big on ABV and loaded with flavor and drinkability. All sorts of interesting mixes like Creme Brulee and OAT...certainly one of the best series of Imperial Stouts for sure.
