Now You Can Get Your Flathead Lake in a Box….Beer that is!

imageBack in the day it wasn't uncommon to see one of our semi-local brew pubs serve up their take-out beer in boxes.  The Ship Inn in Milford, NJ commonly sold beer boxes, so it’s interesting to see this press release coming out of Flathead Lake Brewing in Bigfork, MT:

"He was a wise man who invented beer." –Plato

And he was a wise man who invented a box to put your beer in.   “When you drink, it shrinks!  So you can take and enjoy your FLBC craft beer everywhere!” stated Greg Johnston, owner of the brewery. The brewery, like others in the state, sells 64oz glass growlers to go already.  And last month began selling their beers in 22oz “bombers”.  But the new “Tackle Box” growlers are outdoors, environmentally and travel friendly.

The Tackle Box is a plastic recyclable growler that holds one gallon (128 oz) of beer.  Its volume is twice the size of a typical glass growler yet  the Tackle Box takes less room in the refrigerator or cooler than a comparable volume of cans, bottles, or growlers.  So after you are done, you can return the compressed container and the box for a refill.  It is small enough to fit in a back pack.  Now you can have a tap in your refrigerator and you can save gas and ride your bike or walk to the brewery or Pub House for your refills.

There will be a “Tackle Box” launch party at the brewery in Wood’s Bay on Sunday May 15 featuring beer specials and hints of the new food menu coming this summer.  The Pub House in Missoula will be celebrating the launch on the 16th in Missoula.

American Craft Beer Week is May 16-22.  Small and independent craft brewers throughout the United States and Montana have placed an indelible mark on the world beer-scape and American culture, specifically.  They have opened beer-lovers eyes to, among other things, incredible choice and a myriad of flavors that were not known to the American palates even a decade ago.  What better way to celebrate American creativity this week than the launch of craft brew in a recyclable, unbreakable, and non perishable container that allows you to enjoy a quality craft brew in the Montana elements or your own refrigerator.

Located in Wood’s Bay just 4 miles south of Bigfork, MT, the brewery offers nine craft beers on tap and a restaurant.  The beer is hand brewed and bottled and Montana grown grain is used whenever possible.  Seven day 12-8 PM summer hours begin May 30.  More information on the brewery and available beers, as well as hours and location is available on their website http://www.flatheadlakebrewing.com/
