There’s not much packaging to see just yet, but today we get to see the keg label for Summit Brewing The Villain. This Black Lager will come in at 4.5% ABV and it is brewed for the Minnesota State Fair…more details from Summit:
The Minnesota State Fair is one of the best reasons for living in Minnesota: the food, the festive atmosphere, the great people, the rides, and the great addition in past few years of excellent Minnesota craft beer. Last year, we celebrated the "Great Minnesota Get Together" by brewing a limited edition State Fair IPA. Brewer Jeff Williamson crafted a delicious beer including wild rice, honey and hops all sourced locally from Minnesota businesses. And it was a hit! Fairgoers lined up each day to enjoy the beer. So for 2014, we're brewing another limited edition beer for the fair.
This year's limited edition State Fair beer is called The Villain, a black lager brewed by brewer Gabe Smoley. Early notes on the beer from Smoley's notepad: "The working concept for this year will be a hybrid Schwarzbier brewed with a Kolsch yeast. The beer will be jet black, weighing in around 4-4.5% ABV. It will be lightly hopped and have a mild, slightly roasty flavor - but will drink very clean. A traditional Schwarzbier lager recipe will be followed, but the hybrid ale/lager yeast strain will give the flavor profile a little more character -- possibly tart and fruity. Special brewing malt will be utilized to make this beer uniquely dark, but it will drink like a lager, which should be perfect for the typically-balmy State Fair weather."
