From Lancaster Online:
Starting small is where Aaron Risser, Brandon Stetser and Mike Simpson are now. The three friends have begun Fetish Ales.
"We're just three guys who love beer. We're three guys who are interested in making small batches of really interesting beer and participating in that larger community of beer drinkers in Lancaster," said Simpson, 40, an English teacher.
For the last five months, they have made beer in Risser's Millersville home and distributed it free to friends at monthly gatherings of beer enthusiasts.
They hope to purchase a building in Lancaster city soon, expand the operation and, with permitting from the state Liquor Control Board, sell their beer.
They expect that application process to take six to 12 months after settling on a site, said Stetser, 40, managing director of a metals trading company.
The Fetish partners are patterning their business model on "community supported agriculture," where people buy shares and take home a portion of the crop.
That model inspires a sense of community and allows them to grow at their own pace, they say.
"When we want to get bigger, we'll send out 12 or 24 or 48 or 100 invitations to become a Fetish shareholder, but we'll move that line when we're ready," Stetser said.
