Danny Williams died in Jan 2012 at the age of 52 after working much of his life for the local Brewers Association at the Great American Beer Festival. Danny was famous for his “gold mine” property where his beer cellar had over 2000 bottles of beer. Built on the site of a former gold mine the property is over 8-acres, and the surviving members of his family are struggling to pay the mortgage.
Enter Gordon Schuck from Funkwerks Brewing on the scene and a benefit beer was under way. Danny’s Gold Mine will be co-brewed by Funkwerks, New Belgium, Odell, Ska & Crooked Stave and the proceeds will benefit Danny’s family. Based on this peek at the label, it will be 10% ABV & packaged in 750ml bottles.
Word out of Colorado is that there are potentially 5 or 6 other co-brews that may include such combinations as Ninkasi & Pelican, Oskar Blues, Wynkoop & Boulder Beer, Stone & Lost Abbey and many other west-coast collabs to potentially be released to benefit the Williams family. Stay tuned for further details as these beers materialize.
