Long Island, NY . - Tickets are on sale now for DAS BOCK! New York’s Original Lager Festival. Hosted by the New York State Brewers Association (NYSBA), the spring celebration will take place on Sat., May 18, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Long Island’s famed Plattduetsche Biergarten. The festival will focus on traditional lagers from 45 breweries across New York State. Attendees can discover German food, flavors, music, and meet the industry professionals behind their favorite beers.

In celebration of springtime’s longer and brighter days, breweries from every region of New York State will be pouring their take on German lager, a traditionally light beer. In addition to a plethora of lagers, beers of all styles will be available at the renowned event, offering enthusiasts, both novice and seasoned, a rare opportunity to relish in unique and award-winning beer. Several breweries pouring at the event have recently clinched awards in the 2024 NYS Craft Beer Competition presented by Ultimate Brew Service. Among them are Strong Rope Brewery, Bright Eye Beer Company, and Threes Brewing Company, recognized for their outstanding lagers.

The festival will also feature traditional German food including beer brats and giant pretzels, music by an authentic German band and beer games, taking place in a traditional German beer hall and outdoor beer garden.

The Plattduetsche traces back to 1883 when Plattduetshce Volksfest Vereen of Brooklyn was formed as a society for German immigrants, dedicated to upholding German culture and tradition and helping those who were ill, injured, or needy. To fund their mission and share German culture, they held festivals and events. It has since changed location from Brooklyn to Long Island, and still hosts events and festivals on site including in its beer garden (Biergarten), making it the perfect venue for Das Bock.

“Das Bock is the closest thing to going to Germany - without actually going to Germany,” said Paul Leone, executive director of New York State Brewers Association. “This event is a fun and relaxed celebration of German lagers and other light beers. When you add the German food, music and games taking place at this historic venue, it’s an all-day festival experience.”

Tickets for the Das Bock Festival can be purchased through the Think NY, Drink NY website in advance for $15, or at the event for $25 (cash only) and include entry to the festival, a commemorative 0.5-liter glass bier stein, and three 5-ounce beer tasting tickets. During the event, attendees can purchase additional beer tickets for individual 5-ounce tastings, or a combined 15-ounce tasting (one ticket for $3, or 10 for $25). Proceeds from the event will directly support New York State’s craft beer industry.
