Mybeerbuzz .com Highlights KetoneAid New Ethanol-Free R 1,3 Hard Seltzer (Review)

I’m excited to bring you a first sampling of what could be the start of some unique hard seltzers and beverages. The beverage is called Hard Ketones and they are now producing the world’s first ketogenic alcohol. What this means is that these seltzers are ethanol-free so they leave out what they call the “addictive and toxic” form of alcohol. Instead Hard Ketones  uses Butanediol that has the same effect as alcohol, but without all of the side effects.

As Hard Ketones puts it:

Where typical alcoholic drinks get metabolized into toxic byproducts, the liver converts R 1,3 into brain-strengthening molecules called D-BHB. Compared to ethanol, Hard Ketones:

  • Suppresses hunger rather than stimulating it

  • Protects the brain and body rather than damaging it

  • Contains zero carbs and sugar

  • Energizes rather than leaving you tired and hungover

Both the taste and can resemble that of hard seltzer. In the coming years, expect to start seeing this everywhere among health-conscious crowds.

Of course any time you mention all the fun of alcohol without all of the drawbacks, I’m interested… and I agreed to test-drive Hard Ketones…so off we go.

Before we get any further, don’t confuse the naming of this hard seltzer with a Ketogenic diet. These aren’t related and Hard Ketones addresses that in their FAQ’s.

I’ll also say up front that the Hard Ketones Seltzer R 1,3 drinks taste good. I was wondering what the flavor would be like and they not only taste good, but they have no unpleasant aftertaste. The drinks are packaged in 12oz & 8oz cans and I’d describe the flavor as slightly sweet for the seltzer and of course the G & T tastes like the cocktail itself.

From here this becomes a big of a hangover story, or more accurately a NO hangover story. Of course this is difficult to quantify and yes your mileage may vary. Personally I did find the seltzer to be very drinkable and it did impart the feelings you’d expect in any traditional alcoholic beverage. I also noted that I felt increased energy and no real desire or hunger for food like you may have with normal alcohol.

With only two cans to try, I can’t say that I was heading to a major hangover anyway, but I did feel pretty normal the next morning and I didn’t feel extra tired or have any symptoms of a hangover. Again, your mileage may vary and drinking a lot more may negate the positive effects, but I can say I felt good the following day and I did note the absence of any sort of headache, tiredness or any of the negative effects you’d expect with drinking traditional alcohol the night before.

With that in mind, I’d say Hard Ketones Seltzer R 1,3 did live up to it’s claim of providing all the fun of alcohol, without all of the side-effects and hangover issues. The flavor is slightly sweet and drinkable and the seltzer behaves like a normal seltzer, just without all the bad stuff associated with alcohol.

Be sure to try Hard Ketones Seltzer R 1,3 for yourself, and when you do try it, be sure to let us know what YOU think.

Update May 2022:

Hard Ketones was kind enough to send along their new R 1,3 Ginger Mule. This Moscow Mule cocktail-inspired ethanol-free alcohol beverage has 75 calories per 12oz serving and 0 carbs. The flavors make you think you’re drinking an actual Moscow Mule cocktail and the subtle combination of ginger and lime make this beverage really drinkable. Overall I really enjoyed sampling Ginger Mule and I really like the 8oz cans as well. Here’s another fun Hard Ketones beverage for you to try.
