Mybeerbuzz .com Highlights New Holland Dragon’s Milk (Review)

I’m a big fan of Bourbon barrel-aged stouts, and you literally can’t talk about that category of beers without mentioning today’s brewery & today’s beer.

Started in 1997 by Brett VanderKamp, New Holland Brewing continues to be a pioneer in the brewing and distilling arenas. Many people may know them for their beers and spirits, but when you mention New Holland Brewing, most beer lovers will think of one beer…Dragon’s Milk.

This classic, original and most famous New Holland beer is a Bourbon barrel-aged stout that spends 3-months in a Bourbon barrel. The combination of complexity and flavors make this one of the more interesting barrel-aged stouts to sample, and of course I can’t wait…so off we go.

Overall:  New Holland Dragon’s Milk is one of my favorite barrel-aged beers, and once you sample it, you’ll know why. The combination of satisfying mouthfeel combined with the wonderful depth and complexity of the beer will have you wanting another sip. Overall this beer has some really complex flavor combinations, but the simple presence of chocolate, vanilla, Bourbon and coffee is a winning combination you will return to again and again.
