I’ll admit that up until just a year or so ago I didn’t know much about Wild Leap Brewing in LaGrange, GA….but that all changed when they were kind enough to send along a sample of their Alpha Abstraction Series of beers. The beer was Vol. 12 and if you follow this link, you’ll see I really liked it.
If you’re not familiar, The Alpha Abstraction beers are a series of double IPAs that are typically very juice-forward and they use a variety of hops and hop blends to create that juice-forward flavor.
Today, Wild Leap was kind enough to send a sample of the latest beer in the series: Alpha Abstraction Vol. 17 Double IPA and the beer is a collaboration with Brewers Supply Group (BSG). This volume features Citivia; a new hop blend with tropical and juice-forward characteristics. The blend was created to create more consistency in hop characteristics year over year and Wild Leap used it to double dry-hop Vol. 17.
Of course I can’t wait any longer to try it, so off we go…
Alpha Abstraction Vol. 17 Double IPA
ABV: 8%
Style: DIPA w/BSG Citivia Hop Blend
Packaging: 12oz cans
Appearance: Cloudy orange golden color
Aroma: Peaches, apricots and mangos
Mouthfeel: Medium
Taste: Citrus, tropical fruit, stone fruit and mango.
Overall: Alpha Abstraction Vol 17 has some really classic juice-forward flavors. Add in that these flavors go really well together, and you have a winning combination (and beer). I found fresh peaches, ripe mango, mild citrus and a punch of apricot that I really enjoyed. Overall this volume is really drinkable and enjoyable (even at a sneaky 8%-AbV) and it is already my new favorite Alpha Abstraction beer from Wild Leap.
Wild Leap Alpha Abstraction Volume 17 is available now in 12oz cans at the brewery and at retailers throughout the southeast so get out there and try it for yourself. And when you do try it, be sure to let us know what YOU think.
