Just a few months ago I was lucky enough to get my hands on a big hazy imperial IPA from Elysian Brewing in Seattle, WA. The beer was called Full Contact, and I’ll admit it has now become one of my favorite winter IIPAs. With that in mind, I was excited to sample another beer coming coming from the “contact” series of beers from Elysian.
The beer is called Contact Haze and it was actually the first “contact” beer in the series (coming out in Jan 2020). This beer will join Full Contact and a new beer called Altered Contact coming later in 2021. If that’s not enough fun, all three beers will be available in a Trilogy Pack coming in 2021 as well.
Contact Haze is, as you may guessed, a hazy IPA, and you know I love a good hazy IPA, so off we go…
Elysian Brewing Contact Haze
ABV: 6%
IBU: 39
Style: Hazy IPA
Packaging: 12oz cans
Appearance: Lightly hazy golden orange
Aroma: Fresh tropical fruit, citrus and melon
Mouthfeel: Medium to light bodied
Taste: Fresh tropical fruits with lots of pineapple, guava, lemon & citrus
Overall: Elysian Contact Haze has a really complex and enjoyable mix of fresh and bright tropical fruits, with a punch of pineapple, tangerine and citrus (thanks in part to the Southern Passion, Sabro, El Dorado, Mosaic, Citra, and Sultana hops on board). I also really enjoyed the subtle flavors of melon and berries in the mix, and of course this fruit-forward blend works really well. Overall, I’d say this beer checks a lot of boxes for me in the Hazy IPA category and I think it’s definitely one you should try.
Elysian Contact Haze is available now in 12oz caned six and twelve packs so get out there and try it for yourself. And when you do try it, be sure to let us know what YOU think.
