Back in mid-February, I brought you a little peek at a new beer coming to bottles from Fort Collins.  Up front you can’t help notice the new art work hitting this bottle and many others from Fort Collins, but soon you’ll quickly noticed the beer itself.

Fort Collins Scarlett On Brett is a new seasonal coming from FCB, but to my palate, it’s more than just a new label.  This wild ale uses Columbus, Chinook and El Dorado hops as well as Pale, Melanoiden, Crystal, Munich and Midnight Wheat malts.  If that’s not enough fun, mix in some Brettanomyces yeast and you get Scarlett On Brett.

 



The aroma has loads of tropical fruits and  a pleasing but funky pineapple nose (this is a good thing).  Fort Collins tells me that since the Brettanomyces was used in primary fermentation, it imparts lots of pineapple and fruit flavors rather than the typical funk and graham cracker that typically comes from Brett.

Given the name, I was expecting a beautiful red color, and Scarlett did not disappoint.  The color is rich and deep and it makes for a really pretty pour.

The flavors in this beer are complex, but I love the pineapple and more specifically what I’d call canned pineapple flavors up front.  There’s lots of sweet and tropical fruits in there and the hop varieties add some nice balance and complexity.  The finish is sweet and really juicy with some great peach and apricot at the end.

Fort Collins Scarlett On Brett hits a sneaky 8%-AbV and 50 IBU (much more bitter than the balanced flavor imparts) and it is packaged in 12oz bottles (6 packs) and on draft.  Scarlett On Brett isn’t your typical “Brett” beer, and I think you’ll really find it unique.  This beer is available now so be sure to try it for yourself, and as always, let us know what YOU think.
