Some interesting news coming from Lost Abbey as they search for a 2nd brewery location and begin to experiment with Tequila barrel-aging. Details from SanDiego Eater:
The barrel room at The Lost Abbey is currently stacked floor-to-ceiling with tequila barrels from Tequila 30-30 that the brewery just filled with a new base beer, a strong ale brewed with agave. Its working title is "Mas Tequila", after a Sammy Hagar song, but Tomme Arthur, The Lost Abbey's co-founder and director of brewery operations, told Eater that the real name of the beer will be kept under wraps until its release, which is likely more than a year away.
Arthur also shared that he's conducting a search for a second brewery location, which would free up their current facility (which previously housed Stone Brewing Co.) to focus solely on the production of his much-admired sour beers.
He's aiming to stay in San Marcos, citing the city's embrace and support of the brewing community and the need to stay in close proximity to the original brewery. Also exciting: Arthur says the new location will have some kind of food component, though it's yet undecided if that will be a full-fledged restaurant.
