Bridgeport Brewing–2011 Stumptown Tart Strawberry Tasting

StumptownTartStrawberryA BIG thank you to my friend and Bridgeport Brewing Master Brewer Jeff Edgerton for sending me a great sampling box, including the NEW 2011 Stumptown Tart Strawberry.  Here’s a peek at the sample pack with the original Stumptown Tart Oak-aged Framboise Jeff sent in Feb..the subsequent tasting notes for all the great Bridgeport Brews are Here…and here’s a peek at the recent label approval for Stumptown Tart Strawberry.

imageThe 2011 Stumptown Tart is infused with locally-grown fresh strawberries and lightly hopped with Czech Saaz.  The stats:  7.7% ABV, 15 IBU, 10 SRM, 231 calories (12oz)…and the guys tell me that the name “Stumptown” comes from a Portland mid-19th century nickname given when rapid city growth forced land to be cleared faster than tree stumps could be removed…..

imageFrom a tasting standpoint, this one is as good as the original version, and then some.  Lots of great strawberry flavor and the beer has a very drinkable flavor and body.  This brew is much lighter than the raspberry version, but loaded with strawberry flavor.  I really like the Stumptown Tart series of beers so far, and I think it’s a great idea to showcase not only the great brews coming out of Bridgeport Brewing, but also the great local fruits.
