Information about the fire at the Abbey Saint Remy Rochefort Trappist brewery and resulting damage continues to be pretty scarce. I am hearing that the fire started in a wing of the abbey where a new generator was recently added to protect the monastery from the recent power outages caused by heavy snowfall. It is not clear if the fire was a result of a problem with the generator itself or the wiring leading to and from it, however they are saying the generator was not running at the time of the fire.
I’m also hearing that beer production may not be resuming as quickly as they originally anticipated because of some roof damage in the area where the fermenting tanks are located. It sounds like this roof damage will necessitate the actual moving of these vessels, which will further delay production. So far there is no official word on this from the monastery.
I came across two great videos (both in English) you can check out by clicking HERE. and another BBC report of the fire you can check out by clicking HERE.
