Sierra Nevada & Omnipollo Collaborate On Västkust IPA

This morning I have another new Swedish collaboration coming from Sierra Nevada in Chico, CA and Mills River, NC.

This is Västkust IPA and it will be a collaboration with Omnipollo.that will be a mash-up of Torpedo Extra IPA and Omnipollo’s Nebuchadnezzar DIPA. The beer uses whole-cone Citra hops in the Hop Torpedo with a “double hit” of Simcoe and Amarillo hops. You’re looking at the 16oz can and this IPA will hit 8%-AbV and 55 IBU. Stay tuned for release details.  zzubreebym

This 13 Nov 2024 update from Sierra Nevada:

Call it West Coast. Call it Västkust.

Two collabs in one year with Sweden's Omnipollo? Delicious. After this summer's Hazy Double IPA—it sold out in one day!—we quickly got started on round two.

Västkust IPA is the ultimate West Coast mash-up: our Torpedo Extra IPA meets Omnipollo's flagship DIPA, Nebuchadnezzar (aka "Neb").

"Whole-cone Citra hops are essential to Torpedo," says Isaiah Mangold, our Head Innovation Brewer, "so we're using a significant amount both in the kettle and in our 'Hop Torpedo.' We also hit it with a big double dose of the Neb hops: Simcoe and Amarillo."

But Västkust doesn't stop at hops. "Malt is very much a part of Torpedo's soul," says Isaiah, and it's reflected in this collab.

"In Europe at least, everyone's brewing IPAs with very little malt character," says Omnipollo co-founder Henok Fentie. "It's like more and more sugar, lighter, lighter. … [Västkust] is a fun venture back into malt."

Smooth malt, West Coast bitterness, and hoppy layers of pine, grapefruit and candied orange. Västkust IPA goes live this Thursday at 12:00 p.m. PT, shipping to approved states*. Very limited like the last one, so act fast!
