On SLASH’s critically acclaimed sixth solo album Orgy of the Damned, the iconic, GRAMMY® Award-winning guitarist, songwriter, and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, goes back to what has always been at the heart of his playing: the Blues.
Hailed “a beautifully tailored love letter to the Blues,” (Blues Matters) on Orgy of the Damned SLASH and his Blues Ball Band revitalize blues classics with the album’s handpicked diverse guest vocalists, which include Brian Johnson (AC/DC), Chris Stapleton, Iggy Pop, Gary Clark Jr., Billy F. Gibbons (ZZ Top), Chris Robinson (The Black Crowes), Dorothy, Paul Rodgers, Demi Lovato, Tash Neal, and Beth Hart.
On Orgy of the Damned, SLASH reteamed with GRAMMY® Hall of Fame Producer and longtime collaborator Mike Clink. SLASH selected standard blues songs made famous by Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters and Robert Johnson, and tracks from blues rock bands like Peter Green‘s Fleetwood Mac and Steppenwolf. He even strays from the blues for the Motown tracks from the Temptations and Stevie Wonder, highlighting the inherent blues influence underlying all great music from the 60s and 70s. The legendary guitarist reunited with two of his bandmates from his Blues Ball Band outfit in the 90s, Johnny Griparic (bass), and Teddy ‘ZigZag’ Andreadis (keys), and brought on drummer Michael Jerome and singer/guitarist Tash Neal who round out his Blues band in the studio and on the road.
Released on May 17, 2024, Orgy of the Damned is available worldwide everywhere on Gibson Records HERE. A first for SLASH, Orgy of the Damned spent 13 weeks at #1 on the Billboard Blues Album Chart in the U.S. The new album also debuted as the #1 Blues Album in the U.S and the U.K., #2 on the U.S. Rock Albums Chart, as well as achieving Top 10 Chart positions in 7 countries around the world.
On how the epic Orgy of the Damned album came to be, SLASH states, “There was definitely a lot going on with this idea of creating a Blues record. Back in the 90’s, I had a drunken Blues band that had some great songs, we played a lot of shows with some great players, a couple of which are on this record. I always thought back then it would be great to record an album of these songs, but it was such an impromptu thing, and we never took it to that level. Fast forward all these years and I am still going out to Blues clubs and jamming with bar bands and at some point, I decided I really wanted to make this record. So on a three week break, I called up Johnny and Teddy from the Blues Ball Band, and I picked some songs from our old set list, and a few new songs we haven’t done before, and we got into the studio and just jammed on them.
Then the idea of having different singers came simultaneously, and I got on the phone and reached out to the first person that came to mind that I felt should sing each song, it all came together organically, which is the best way. When you pick a singer, you know innately in your mind that they would be great on the song, but you don’t know what their individual relationship with that song is, so when you talk to them, if they react to it, you’re already halfway there because they’re going to put their heart and soul into the performance. I was really fortunate that I picked the right songs for the right people.”
