300 medals awarded to 268 breweries in nation’s largest professional beer competition
Denver, CO . • October 8, 2022 — The 2022 Great American Beer Festival (GABF) competition awarded 300 medals to the best commercial breweries in the United States. Presented by the Brewers Association (BA), GABF is the nation’s largest professional beer competition and the premier symbol of brewing excellence.
Award-winning breweries received prestigious gold, silver, and bronze medals in 98 beer categories covering 177 different beer styles (including all subcategories), establishing the best examples of each style in the country. In addition, three GABF Collaboration medals pairing two professional breweries, and three GABF Pro-Am medals pairing homebrewers with professional brewers, were announced. The awards ceremony was held at the Bellco Theatre in Denver during the 40th anniversary Great American Beer Festival.
The competition took place in three phases over a period of nine days and was judged by 235 beer experts from seven countries, including the U.S. In addition to 9,904 commercial brewery entries, the judging panel also evaluated 35 Pro-Am entries and 94 Collaboration entries. The competition was made possible with the help of 310 volunteers.
“Each year the Great American Beer Festival showcases the best that American brewers have to offer,” said Chris Williams, competition director, Great American Beer Festival. “With 9,904 entries, this year’s competition was the most competitive to date. Congratulations to all the winners who truly demonstrated why the U.S. is the best brewing nation in the world.”

Colorado Breweries Make Strong Showing at Great American Beer Festival® Competition
DENVER, CO (Oct. 8, 2022) — The Colorado Brewers Guild (CBG) proudly honors the 23 independent Colorado breweries that were awarded 26 medals at the Great American Beer Festival (GABF) competition this Saturday morning. The GABF competition drew in 9,904 entries from 2,154 breweries across the United States, Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico. Colorado received a total 28 of medals, further demonstrating that Colorado is a world-class craft beer destination.
First time GABF winners included Bierstadt Lagerhaus, River North Brewery, Rock Cut Brewing, and Resolute Brewing Company.
Left Hand Brewing Company continues as the most awarded craft brewery in Colorado collecting two medals today and their 29th medal at GABF overall. Bristol Brewing collected the brewery’s 10th GABF medal for Laughing Lab Scottish Ale (the last time the brewery earned a GABF medal for this beer was in 2010), and this is the 14th medal for the Colorado-Springs based brewery.
Cannonball Creek pushed its winning streak to 10 years earning a bronze medal in the specialty saison category, a first for the brewery in this style; the Golden-based brewery has won 15 GABF medals in total across 10 different categories in the past 10 years. Comrade Brewing Company earned its second gold medal for More Dodge and Less Ram, taking home top honors in the most competitive category this year, American-Style India Pale Ale.

Our Mutual Friend Brewing Earns Two Medals at 2022 Great American Beer Festival® Competition
Taking home Gold for Saison Trystero and Silver for Biere Ovale the Denver based brewery now has eight medals from this prestigious beer competition.
DENVER, CO (October 8, 2022)— Our Mutual Friend Brewing (OMF) was awarded a gold medal for Trystero in the Brett Beer category and a silver medal for Biere Ovale in the Mixed-Culture Brett Beer category at the 2022 Great American Beer Festival (GABF) competition, presented by the Brewers Association. This was the second medal for both Trystero (silver, 2017) and Biere Ovale (silver, 2021) at GABF. The best beers in 98 beer-style categories were awarded gold, silver and bronze medals during the awards ceremony at Bellco Theatre at the Colorado Convention Center this morning.
Judges for the celebrated competition evaluated 9,904 entries, the largest to date, from 2,154 breweries from across the United States, Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico.
“Being recognized for the hard work and dedication by our brewers to achieve the highest quality in every step of the creation of our beers gives us the encouragement of knowing we are on the right path,” says OMF Managing Partner and Co-Owner Brandon Proff. “It also reminds us that it is not the end of the journey. We have a lot to learn and appreciate about the art of making beer, and that is incredibly exciting.”
Saison Trystero is a 6.6% ABV Brett Saison and Biere Ovale is a 4.7% ABV mixed culture foeder-Aged Saison.
To date, Our Mutual Friend has collected eight medals at GABF, including two medals—gold for Inner Light and silver for Biere Ovale—last year, as well as a bronze for Inner Light in 2020, silver for Saison Trystero in 2017, a silver for Dreamy Thing (collaboration with Cerebral Brewing) in 2016, and silver for 24 Frames Per Second in 2015.
