Everyone that enjoys hoppy beer surely prefers them mega fresh, so we make sure that Powder Cache, along with all New Belgium Denver releases, hits select retailer’s shelves the same week they’re packaged.  As for the brewing talent down in Denver, not only do  our master pilot brewers, Hal & Isaac, brew and run the can line, but they’re also the smiling faces you’ll meet on delivery day. Sweet Blood Orange Heat:

  • Market Release Date: 3/9/22
  • Beer Details: Blood orange wheat beer brewed with honey, habanero, and cinnamon
  • AVB: 6.5%
  • Brewed: At New Belgium’s Denver Pilot Brewery
  • Storytelling: Beer drinkers have been loving a little heat in their brews these days! We’re giving them what they want, and with Sweet Blood Orange Heat we sweetened the deal with Colorado honey and blood orange puree. When conceptualizing a beer that has such a spicy ingredient like habanero peppers, the key is to create balance. The gentle wheat beer base comprised exclusively of 2-row barley and malted white wheat created a neutral palette to showcase the other unique ingredients. In the kettle we added local Colorado wildflower honey, dried habanero and a touch of Saigon cinnamon. In order to add another level complexity we added blood orange puree during the middle of fermentation. The blood orange citrus character melds together with the spice additions and lends a subtle acidity contribution to the overall flavors. The honey and citrus shine through on the nose leading into the soft medium bodied wheat base today’s beer drinkers know and love. Towards the end of your sip, the nuanced cinnamon character leads you into the slow-building habanero heat that that compounds over time but never overpowers the senses. The resulting beer is quite balanced and restrained, making for a great drinking experience that has you coming back for another can.

Calvados Sour:

  • Market Release Date: 3/9/22
  • Beer details: Apple pear kettle sour, aged on brandy barrel chips
  • ABV: 6.6%
  • Brewed: At New Belgium’s Fort Collins Pilot Brewery
  • Storytelling: The inspiration for this month’s Cellar Club Pilot Series comes from Calvados, a cider brandy produced in Normandy, France. The base cider, which can include apples or pears, is distilled and aged in oak casks. Our beer take on Calvados started with an apple-pear ale that filled the pilot brewery with intense pie aroma on brew day. We kettle-soured that base beer – meaning we acidified it quickly in the brew kettle rather than in a foeder or wood barrel – before adding vanilla beans, cinnamon and aging on brandy-barrel wood chips. What may sound complex comes together in perfect balance in this unique release. You’ll get a touch of cinnamon on the nose, apple pie sitting just beneath it, vanilla holding it all together. A delicate tartness cuts through the sweet aromatics to deliver a clean finish.
