ABOUT THE BEER
21% ABV
This one-of-a-kind beer, and rare bottle endeavor for Upslope, began in 2017 as "Batch 1000" - a massive, high gravity beer aged in bourbon barrels for a year before it's release as Vol. 19 of our Lee Hill Series - has transformed into Upslope's Grand Reserve. After packaging the initial batch, our brewers held on to a small portion to further age for two more years in first generation bourbon barrels until we knew it was time to share. This secondary aging has deepened the barrel character and allowed for a slow oxidation, yielding a sweet, after-dinner libation akin to an aged tawny port or Pedro Ximénez sherry.
Upslope Grand Reserve is bottled intentionally still (without carbonation) to preserve the rich, vinous qualities of this deeply-aged liquid. We recommend allowing the beer to breathe in a decanter or port glass for about an hour, warming it to room temperature prior to your first sip. Notes of muscovado sugar, dried figs, and vanilla from the base beer eventually yield to oxidative accents of burnt honey and a nutty, candied character reminiscent of pralines. A velvety, syrupy body is followed by a warming and decadent finish. Due to the high alcohol content and advanced oxidation of the beer, one can reseal the bottle after opening for future enjoyment.
