New Short Film: Surfer/Artist Nate Tyler on Dropping Out of the Fast Lane, Dropping Back into His Hometown

From Firestone Walker:

Beautifully shot in black and white, the film (17:17 mins.) by 805 Beer spotlights Nate Tyler, a native of Templeton, California, a rural town south of Paso Robles just inland from the Central Coast. As a pre-teen Nate was introduced to surfing by his father, who would regularly take him and his friends to the beach every weekend. With the talent to attract sponsors and pursue the professional surfing scene, Nate moved to Orange County but soon felt overwhelmed and disconnected. He decided to exit the fast lane of pro surfing and return to his hometown, where he joined his father’s business creating metal sculpture artwork. A dedicated free surf enthusiast, Nate also launched a local surf accessory venture, Octopus, a rare surfer-owned brand. His grassroots business approach is mirrored in the slow-lane lifestyle he now shares with his wife and children in the place he loves most.

The latest film from Firestone Walker Brewing Co and 805 Beer features real people pursuing their passions, “Beautiful Silence Featuring Nate Tyler” exemplifies the importance of family, roots and identity. Says Nate, “I’m honored to have the chance to work on this film, and proud to be able to tell my story. 805 has deep roots in the Central Coast surf community, and it has been fun working together on this project.”
