Fun Time Pale has arrived!
Join us this Tuesday August 3rd for the debut of our "Special Projects Draft Division" series. Our first release in the series is Fun Time Pale, dreamed up by Gigantic headbrewer Scott Guckel and inspired by his trip to New Zealand.
A couple years back, Scott traveled to New Zealand for his Gigantic 5th anniversary trip. He hit the road and toured both islands seeing the natural beauty, incredible museums, endless sheep and taking in the amazing culture. He also had many pints of the excellent craft beer brewed there - New Zealand has a thriving craft beer community, which also includes hop growing regions.
It was there he experienced the New Zealand grown Green Bullet hop. First released in 1972, Green Bullet has become the signature New Zealand hop. It has a complex flavor and aroma that is comprised of dark fruits, pine needles, floral aromas, and slight spice. For Fun Time Pale, Scott combined Green Bullet with Citra and Simcoe hops creating a sweet citrusy and fruity trip, back by a hint of pine. Flaked rice was added to make the pale finish light and dry, leaving you begging for another drink.
When asked about the name of the beer Scott said, "I had a real fun time in New Zealand and we had a fun time brewing this beer. Also everyone should know that it's made with rice, so it's really nice."
Fun Time Pale is the first beer in our small batch "Special Projects Draft Division" series. These beers are brewed on our smallest fermentors and meant as a way to experiment and try new ingredients and ideas. These beers are available on tap only at both of our locations - Gigantic Brewery & Taproom 5224 SE 26th and the Gigantic Robot Room 6935 NE Glisan. A limited number of kegs will make it out to bars in the Portland area.
