New Year-Round Addition, More Pint Cans & Exciting Collaboration Among Highlights
MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, OH December 7, 2020—Fat Head’s Brewery announced its 2021 Beer Release Calendar with the biggest news being the addition of Groovy Juice Hazy IPA to the year-round lineup. Debuting as a limited release during the height of Covid-shutdown in early May, Groovy Juice Hazy IPA originally rolled out in 6pk, 12 oz. cans and enjoyed brisk sales each time it returned. The addition of four new 200-barrel fermenters ensures there is more than enough capacity to support the brew’s – and the brewery’s total 2021 – expansion plans, however with continuing tight demand for 12 oz. aluminum cans, Groovy will move to a 4pk, 16 oz. package offer as it shifts to core brand status.
Also moving to the 4pk, 16 oz. format is Fat Head’s line of IPA seasonals, which kicks off each January with Special Hoperations IPA. An annually rotating collaboration series, 2021 will see Fat Head’s partner with Oregon’s Breakside Brewery, a favorite of Head Brewmaster, Matt Cole. Once again, a portion of sales proceeds will be donated to Honor Flight, an extraordinary non-profit organization which supports U.S. military veterans, helping them visit the memorials dedicated to honor their service and sacrifices. Benjamin Danklin IPA will return as the Q2 offer, with 2 new IPAs currently in development marked to fill out the range in Q3 and Q4.
Hop Head fans of imperial IPA Hop Juju will be able to enjoy the iconic and award-winning brew three times in 2021, up from its two releases this year. Sandwiched in between them will be two releases of another relatively new brew, Hazy Ei8ht Imperial Hazy IPA, which after two extremely limited releases in 2020, will see its volumes increased to allow a wider reach for its next two editions. The range of traditional holiday brews remains unchanged, with G’Suffa Oktoberfest, Spooky Tooth Imperial Pumpkin, Holly Jolly Christmas Ale and Pimp My Sleigh Belgian-style Christmas Ale bowing in the second half of the year. Holly and Pimp, which due to the 12oz. aluminum can shortage remained in bottles this year, are slated to move to cans as originally intended.
One package that will remain in bottles a little while longer is Bumble Berry 6pks. One of Fat Head’s dual flagships, alongside Head Hunter IPA, the honey blueberry ale switched back into bottles earlier this Fall for its 6pk offering in order to reduce strain internally on 12 oz. can supply. It will stay in bottle format likely through mid-summer. Its popular 15pk package, however, remains in cans and at present, it appears no other brews will need to move back to bottles.
After winning Gold at the most recent Great American Beer Festival, Goggle Fogger, a German-style Hefe-weizen, which is already available year-round in Ohio, will expand its year-round presence in other markets across Fat Head’s footprint. This will up the number of year-round brews to six, with Strange Magic IPA and Sunshine Daydream Session IPA rounding out the team.
