Drake’s Weird Science: Brewing with Genetically Engineered Yeast

From Drake’s:

We’re dropping knowledge and debuting our newest brew: a collaboration with Berkeley Brewing Science titled Weird Science, a pale ale fermented with genetically engineered yeast. Selectively bred in a lab, this yeast produces the same compounds that aromatic hop oils contribute to the brewing process.
Try the beer this week! Our friends from Berkeley Brewing Science and the ever-charming Collin McDonnell of HenHouse Brewing Company, will be joining Drake’s brewmaster John Gillooly for a demo at Drake's Barrel House on Thursday, July 25, from 4-8pm.

During the event we’ll be hosting a smell test of five different hop varietals, and we want you to participate in the research and development process. Curious imbibers will taste our freaky deaky new science beer without a dry-hop, then vote on which of the five hop strains would complete the puzzle.
Winner of the popular vote will make its way into our upcoming collaboration with HenHouse, also brewed with genetically engineered yeast. Smell the hops, taste the beer, and imagine the possibilities!
Read our recent blog post to learn more about the project and how we intend to use this yeast in greater detail.
