Mitch Steele, New Realm Brewing Co., has been named the new chair of the Brewers Association (BA) Supply Chain subcommittee, which is part of the Technical Committee structure.

Mitch is the Brewmaster, COO and Co-Founder of New Realm Brewing Company. He studied brewing science at the University of California Davis and started brewing professionally in 1988. Since then, Mitch has managed brewing operations and innovation with four different breweries, including 14 years with Anheuser-Busch and 10 years at Stone Brewing in San Diego, where he managed brewing operations as Stone grew from a 50,000 bbls operation to one of the top 10 largest craft brewers in the country. In 2012, Mitch authored the Brewers Publications book IPA: Brewing Techniques, Recipes and the Evolution of India Pale Ale. In 2014, the Brewers Association awarded Mitch with the prestigious Russell Scherer Award for Innovation in Craft Brewing.

The Brewers Association would like to thank previous Supply Chain chair Ken Grossman for his leadership, especially in providing guidance on the Research and Service Grantsprogram and the new public hop breeding program. Ken’s service to the subcommittee, and the Technical Committee, has been a boon for the BA membership.

“I am excited to join the group of prestigious brewers on the Supply Chain subcommittee. This is an area I have passionately been involved with for many years,” says Steele.

“I believe that having a thorough understanding and engagement with our ingredient and material supply chain are critical elements to becoming the best possible brewers.”– Mitch Steele

Larry Horwitz, BA board member and current Technical Committee vice chair, helped with the search to replace Ken as chair. “We are honored to have Mitch Steel serve as chair of a committee of such importance to every brewer in America. Mitch’s extensive industry experience and vision will help the Supply Chain subcommittee proactively solve raw goods, packaging, and other materials issues for the association’s members.”
