Surly Releases First Variety Pack of 2019: Thaw Pack

Surly Releases First Variety Pack of 2019: Thaw PackFrom Surly:

Our first variety pack of 2019 welcomes the new year with a couple flagships, a favorite from 2018, and a new beer that embraces our Minnesota roots.

The Thaw Pack is designed for these post-holiday months, as we trudge our way out of winter’s grip. There will be days where the temperature sneaks above freezing and everyone loses their mind a little. There will be days with a foot of damn snow and snarled traffic and everyone loses their mind more than a little. This maddeningly slow process demands an array of craft beers to see you through the shoveling, scraping, sun, and slush, all in one box of twelve 12 oz. cans.

As with previous variety packs, Furious and Xtra-Citra anchor the occasion, and two exclusive beers round the Thaw Pack out. They are:

60 BELOW: By popular demand, our inaugural variety pack exclusive returns for a second season. Named after the coldest recorded temperature in Minnesota history, this rye IPA features experimental hops and notes of candied grape, orange, and vanilla cream. The rye bill contributes a deep red hue and spicy malt character.

ABV: 6.5%

Hops: Experimental 06297, Ekuanot

Bitterness: High

Pour: Deep red

LAYER UP: We don’t just sit inside and bemoan our fate until Memorial Day. We throw on another layer, zip up the jacket, and get on with our lives.

Layer Up is our tribute to that unflappable, “it’s cold, so what” spirit. With a classic Surly dry-hop bill accentuating bold, fruit-forward flavors, this hazy, German-style ale is ideal for huddling around bonfires or wearing shorts when it’s, like, 47.

Just don’t ask us what “hygge” means.

ABV: 5.5%

Hops: Willamette, Glacier

Bitterness: Low

Pour: Hazy Amber

The Thaw Pack is available to all Surly markets. Think of it as hope in a box. The days are getting longer now.
