Anheuser-Busch Celebrates the Repeal of Prohibition-Era Beer Laws in Colorado with Budweiser Clydesdales Visit to StatehouseFrom Anheuser-Busch:

DENVER, CO (December 31, 2018)To celebrate the repeal of Prohibition-era beer laws that prevented sales of beer greater than 3.2 percent alcohol by weight in most Colorado grocery and convenience stores, Anheuser-Busch sent its world-renowned Budweiser Clydesdales to visit the state capitol building.

The arrival of the horses was reminiscent of the Budweiser Clydesdales’ beer delivery in 1933 to President Franklin D. Roosevelt to celebrate the repeal of Prohibition.

“Coloradans will now have hundreds of full-strength beer brands available at their favorite grocery, convenience or liquor store,” said Greg Sollazzo, Anheuser-Busch’s vice president of sales for the region that encompasses Colorado. “This will increase selection and convenience for beer drinkers. We’re happy to celebrate with all Coloradans as the state embraces modern beer laws that will help this robust, vibrant local beer industry continue to prosper.”

The Colorado Legislature passed and Gov. John Hickenlooper signed a law in 2016 that allows grocery and convenience stores to sell full-strength beer starting New Year’s Day 2019.

Kansas will soon join Colorado in allowing the sale of strong beer, leaving Utah and Minnesota as the only states still following the decades-old restrictions.

Anheuser-Busch has been in Colorado since 1889 and opened its Fort Collins brewery more than 30 years ago. The company has more than 1,500 team members across the state serving their local communities and neighbors. In addition to brewing some of the most recognizable beer brands, the Ft. Collins brewery cans emergency drinking water for disaster relief. Additionally, the nearby Anheuser-Busch Global Barley Research Center breeds new grain varieties that require less water and are more resistant to pests. The Anheuser-Busch can plant in Windsor produces about 2 billion cans a year.
