In an effort to push the science of distillation to all the new high, brewers have developed a range of craft beers for our very best
friends.
It comes as no surprise that with the popularity of craft beers for humans, we now have a very large and exciting range of craft
beers just for dogs. What makes a dog beer you ask? There are several requirements
- 0% alcoholic content. As much as dogs like the taste of beer (it is very salty and savory), it can be extremely toxic for our paw
printed friends to actually get drunk. Like humans, it leads to a depressed central nervous system, but, unlike human’s dogs can
have a variety of negative reactions from psychosis (as they do not understand what is happening), unconsciousness and damage
to their heart rate. Overall, not a great time for them.
- Dog beer does not contain hoops and is generally non-carbonated. It can contain other ingredients used in beer, such as barley
and malt, as these are not harmful to dogs. Fermented yeast can cause stomach problems for dogs, so most of these beers do not
have a yeast base.
- Flavoured/Meat Based. Generally, to replace the alcoholic content, brewers will incorporate a simmering of different meats
and/or root vegetables in the beer itself, to give it a rich and delicious flavor.
- A punny name. The last item on this list is not mandatory, but we believe that there is too much opportunity to not have a
great dog-based pun name for the beer. Read on and discover some of the creative names that we have found.
Now these dog beers more like treats and fewer meal replacements, so are sure to serve with a healthy bowl of dog food. Fortunately, even those who don’t have dogs can enjoy this list and imagine what each one must taste like.
Dog Beer
We begin with the one that started them all, Dog Beer. Dog Beer is made in Brazil and is constituted of water, meat (Chicken or
