Mybeerbuzz .com Highlights Shiner Wicked Juicy IPA & Day Quencher

Image result for shiner wicked IPAIn just a few short weeks, I’ll be heading to the beach.  And every year as our beach vacation approaches, I begin interviewing possible candidates for our “beach beer of the year.”  The beer has to be drinkable, refreshing, sessionable and easy to transport and chill.  With all of that in mind, I think I may have two candidates coming to us today from Shiner.

Today we’ll be sampling two new beers just announced last week.  I love the names, and more importantly, I love the styles.  Shiner Wicked Juicy IPA and Shiner Day Quencher Session Ale are both new canned offerings from Shiner so lets jump into the water and try them out.Texas Craft Brewer Shiner Launches Two New Canned Brews

Wicked Juicy IPA is brewed with my go-to hop variety, Citra, so right out of the gate I like it.  The beer is dry-hopped and unfiltered with a full-bodied mouthfeel and a slightly hazy appearance.  The aromas lead with lots of refreshing citrus and just a bit of sweet passion fruit and the flavors follow with citrus, citrus and even more citrus.  The dry-hopping pushes all sorts of pleasant tropical flavors on to your palate in your first sip and the juicy hop presences follows along nicely.  The mouthfeel is satisfying but the finish leans toward juicy and away from bitter.  At 5.7%-AbV and 60 IBU, Wicked Juicy IPA is really drinkable and very sessionable..and perfect for my cooler.Texas Craft Brewer Shiner Launches Two New Canned Brews

Day Quencher Session Ale is also dry-hopped, but this beer uses Mosaic hops.  The beer also leads with fresh citrus aromas that follow into the flavors, but we found Day Quencher to be a but more fruit-forward with a nice slightly floral and grassy finish.  We were surprised by the piney and earthy flavors at the end, but these ultimately contributed to the crisp and clean finish that made this beer so drinkable.  We were also surprised that Day Quencher Session Ale is only 18 IBU since it felt a lot hoppier.  This beer rolls in at a really sessionable 4.6%-AbV and I suspect it will be very popular in the early afternoon in our beach cooler.

Both of these beers will be packaged in 12oz and exciting new 19.2oz cans and trust me when I say that you cannot miss these designs on the beer shelves.  Shiner Wicked Juicy IPA and Shiner Day Quencher Session Ale will also be supported with new TV advertising, but I believe they will run only on selected TX cable outlets and sports networks.

Shiner Wicked Juicy IPA and Shiner Day Quencher Session Ale will hit distribution in Texas in Aug and nationwide distribution in Sept, so be sure to get out there and interview them for your beach beer of the year.  And when you do taste them, be sure to let us know what YOU think.
