Beers Gone Wild! Tasting To Celebrate Kick Off on June 9th

Tickets Available HERE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Second Self Beer Company, the Atlanta, Georgia-based craft brewery, is set to debut its first series of wild beers on Saturday, June 9th. Each beer will feature distinct and complex flavor profiles and is brewed and fermented with both cultured and naturally cultivated wild Brett yeast strains sourced from around Second Self’s brewery in Atlanta’s Westside neighborhood.

Brett (Brettanomyces) yeast is a naturally occurring strain of wild yeast that imparts funkiness, spice and a touch of tartness when incorporated into the beer fermentation process. The forthcoming series uses this brewing technique to showcase a unique assortment of flavorful and aromatic beers ranging from partial to 100% Brett-fermented, as well as two wild, barrel-aged varieties.

Second Self’s wild beers mark the brewery’s first series incorporating Brett yeast. Their full lineup will include:

  • Barn Out Back, Chocolate porter fermented with Brett Lambicus and Saison yeast blend (7% ABV)

  • The Valley Was Set Ablaze, Blonde ale fermented with raspberries and a Brett Lambicus/Saison yeast blend (6% ABV)

  • Damn, I Shot Marvin in the Face! - Blonde ale fermented with two types of Brett (Brux and Lambicus), Saison yeast, raspberries and blackberries (6% ABV)

  • Ancient Demons Beckon Forth - Started with Second Self's finished Citrus IPA, then finished in Four Roses Bourbon barrels with Brett Brux (8% ABV)

  • The Rapture Will Be Televised - Started with Second Self's finished Olde Oyl, then finished with Brett Brux in a “wet” ASW Rye Barrel with dark sweet cherries (13% ABV)

  • Thirteen Knots - 100% Brett Fermented Russian Imperial Stout (13% ABV)

In celebration of the wild beer series’ debut, Second Self is hosting Beers Gone Wild! – a special tasting party at their taproom (1317 Logan Circle NW) on Saturday, June 9th from 11am to noon. During the event, attendees will be among the first to sample the newly released beers and speak with the Second Self brewers, including David Fuhrer, who helped develop the series. Tickets ($5) are available here and include entry and one wild beer sample. Following the ticketed tasting event, Second Self will open the doors for their wild beers launch party from 12-5pm, where guests can sip on the new series and enjoy bites from The Real Mexican Vittles food truck.

Second Self’s full wild beer series will be available on draft at their taproom, and Ancient Demons Beckon Forth will also be available in select bars and restaurants in the coming months.
