Anchor Brewing Continues Golden State Warriors Partnership with Release of New Limited-Edition California Lager® Packaging

San Francisco, CA (January 25, 2018) – Anchor Brewing Company announces its continued partnership with the Golden State Warriors with the release of new, limited-edition California Lager packaging that highlights the Warriors’ “Strength in Numbers” campaign.  A flavorful, easy-drinking golden lager for the Golden State, Anchor California Lager® (4.9% ABV) is the perfect brew for game time or anytime.

There is strength in the numbers that Anchor Brewing and the Golden State Warriors share.  1971: The year the Warriors became the Golden State Warriors, and the year Anchor Brewing began bottling its flagship beer, Anchor Steam®.  2018: The reigning NBA Champion Golden State Warriors are one of the most recognizable teams in sports, and Anchor Brewing is known worldwide for its timeless and unique beers, like Anchor California Lager.Anchor Brewing Continues Golden State Warriors Partnership

“We have always been huge fans and we’re thrilled to continue our partnership with the Golden State Warriors,” said President and CEO of Anchor Brewing, Matt Davenport.  “Our number is two—that’s how many years California Lager has proudly carried Golden State Warriors packaging, and how many years until we get to call the Warriors neighbors in San Francisco. We hope Warriors fans will enjoy cheering on the home team with this limited edition Anchor California Lager.”

Anchor’s roots go back to the Gold Rush, long before icehouses and modern refrigeration made traditional lagers a viable option in California.  In 1876, thanks to an ice pond in the mountains and a belief that anything is possible in the Golden State, a little brewery named Boca created California’s first genuine lager.  In 2013, Anchor introduced Anchor California Lager as a revival of this historic beer.

“Anchor Brewing has thoughtfully brought our Strength in Numbers campaign to life with this creative and Warriors-centric packaging,” said Warriors Chief Marketing Officer Chip Bowers.  “The Warriors and Anchor Brewing both have a deep connection to California and the Bay Area; this is a fun way for fans of both brands to celebrate the team and our mutual love for California.”

The 2018 limited-edition packaging reflects the Warriors’ Strength in Numbers campaign and their logo, a span of the iconic San Francisco—Oakland Bay Bridge, in their signature yellow and blue colors.  It is available from January-June 2018 and again from October-December 2018 in 6-pack bottles in the extended Bay Area, including Alameda County, Contra Costa County, San Francisco County, Marin County, Merced County, Monterey County, Napa County, San Benito County, San Joaquin County, San Mateo County, Santa Clara County, Santa Cruz County, Solano County, Sonoma County, and Stanislaus County.  You can find a brew near you by using the Anchor Beer Finder.  A variety of Anchor beers are also available at the Oracle Arena where the Golden State Warriors play.

About Anchor Brewing Company

Anchor Brewing Company’s roots date back to the California Gold Rush making it one of America’s oldest breweries. Its Anchor Steam® Beer is San Francisco’s original since 1896. In 1965, Fritz Maytag acquired and revived the struggling brewery at a time when mass production of beer dominated and seemed unstoppable. Maytag started a revolution in beer that originated today’s craft beer movement. An undisputed icon, Anchor is America’s first craft brewery where beers are handmade in our traditional copper brewhouse from an all-malt mash. At Anchor, we practice the time-honored art of classical brewing, employing state-of-the-art methods to ensure that our beers are always pure and fresh. We know of no brewery in the world that matches our efforts to combine traditional, natural brewing with such carefully applied, modern methods of sanitation, finishing, packaging and transporting.
