Dogfish Head - Let The Spitting Begin: Chicha Returns / Bourbon Barrel-Aged Palo Santo Marron

Dogfish Head - Let The Spitting Begin: Chicha Returns

It’s only a keg label, and while it is very likely that we’ll only ever see kegged version, I wanted to take note of an interesting returning beer from Dogfish Head.  This is Chicha and while it is an “ale brewed with strawberry juice” on the surface, it is also brewed with masticated purple Peruvian Corn (aka corn that was manually chewed and spit into vessels).  Here’s the commercial description from Dogfish Head:

3.1

Blonde Ale

Small, independent craft brewers have been fermenting with corn for millenia. In Peru, small communities produce Chicha from masticated maize, naturally fermented in large clay pots and often flavored with fruit and spices. Here at Dogfish, we've produced a chicha hybrid from masticated purple Peruvian Corn, Malted Corn and Malted Barley. The wort is BOILED, chilled and flavored with strawberries to offer a sweet and tart drink perfumed with summer. The beer is fermented with a unique blend of yeast strains which yields a dry beer with fruity and spicy aromas. Refreshing and playful, Chicha is a bold experience of delicate flavors and sensations.

We also have the Alternate Takes keg label for Bourbon Barrel-Aged Palo Santo Marron.
