Catawba Brewing Releases Two New Small Batch Beers for AVL Beer Week

Catawba Brewing Co. unveils two special releases for AVL Beer Week. First, a Small Batch Guava Sour (6.0 percent ABV) will be tapped on Thursday, June 1, at all Catawba locations. Brewed with malted wheat and lightly salted, this refreshingly tart beer was soured in the kettle with lactobacillus. A massive addition of real guava puree in secondary fermentation lends juicy ripe tropical fruit notes to complement the clean kettle sour base. Imagine if the Gose had originated in the Caribbean Islands, this would be the local beer.

Next, Catawba releases a Barrel-Aged Porter on Friday, June 2 – an AVL Beer Week exclusive at their South Slope brewery. This traditional English-style Porter was brewed in a 7-barrel batch in September 2016, then aged for eight months in fresh bourbon barrels. The beer has re-emerged with a complex flavor medley of vanilla, coconut, toffee, chocolate, and roast. Given its bold flavor profile, this Barrel-Aged Porter is incredibly smooth and drinkable at 6.8 percent ABV.
