As often as not, Thursday means beer-launch day here at BrewDog, and as we move towards the mid-point of the year – yes, already – we can soften that realisation a little with our second small-batch canned release of 2017. Following in the tracks of Semi-Skimmed Occultist we have another epic one-off beer ready and waiting, and just as its predecessor it comes cloaked in super cool custom can artwork.

If you are unfamiliar with our small-batch series, they exist to give our brewteam a chance to explore the farther reaches of brewing techniques and ingredients, each one focusing on one particular theme. Pump Action Poet embraces the multitude of flavours delivered by stone fruit, with two very influential additions working alongside a blend of three different malts, three hop varietals and our powerhouse strain of BrewDog American Ale yeast.
The recipe was built with wheat and oats added to the backbone of Pale Malt to yield a perfect supporting baseline of texture and mouthfeel to complement the Amarillo, Simcoe and Citra hops. These give citrus and a fresh piney bitterness to the beer, accentuating the juicy, ripe flavours of a double injection of stone fruit – peaches and apricots. Pump Action Poet is a riot of rich, welcoming fruit and pithy zest – and looks incredible in custom artwork from Tracie Ching.

Small Batch: Lemon Meringue Nitro Pale
Another beer breaking cover today is a major work of collaboration. Back in February we poured several BrewDog heavyweights at this year’s Craft Beer Rising festival at the Truman Brewery in London, and whilst there our crewmembers conducted some democracy in liquid form by developing a collaborative beer recipe. Every person who wanted their say voted on a series of different ideas for a beer – and if you did, today is when the fruits of your labours go live!
Pouring across our London venues and other select UK BrewDog bars is a Pale Ale that the assembled beer fans decided would be between 5.5% and 7.0% ABV (it weighs in at 6.2%) and with a twist that it should be soured. So we have created a kettle-soured pale ale brewed with Sorachi Ace and Amarillo, and then added lemon peel and coriander for a lemon meringue vibe. Oh, and to add a twist of our own we will be serving it up on Nitro!
Pump Action Poet is live now in our online shop, and will also be launching on draft from the taps of our UK bars from 6pm this Thursday, 25th March! The small-batch Lemon Meringue Nitro Pale will be served up the following bars: Edinburgh, Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Soho, Shoreditch, Shepherd's Bush, Clapham Junction, Camden, Clerkenwell, Bristol, Nottingham, Aberdeen, Dog House Merchant City and Leeds!
