We brought you a peek in Sept, and now this from Boulevard:
Show Me Sour, the first offering in a series of tart yet incredibly sessionable beers created by our brewing team, debuts on draft and in six-packs of 12 ounce bottles in the Greater Kansas City Area this week. Regions that have previously seen Boulevard beers like Early Riser Coffee Porter, Hibiscus Gose, and Snow & Tell Oak-Aged Scotch Ale should expect to see Show Me Sour in the coming weeks.
Originally brewed as a collaboration between Boulevard’s Brewmaster Steven Pauwels and Side Project’s Cory King for Boulevardia 2015, Show Me Sour was inspired by their mutual admiration for low ABV, Belgian table beers.
Composed of a malt bill featuring our two-row pale malt, Maris Otter, Amber 50, malted wheat and Midnight Wheat, Show Me Sour was acidified using a process known as brewhouse souring. (link to previous blog for the words brewhouse souring) Brewhouse souring allows us to have precise control over the level of acidity in the wort, resulting in a final beer that’s exactly as sour as intended. Following primary fermentation, Show Me Sour was transferred to second use whiskey barrels for a minimum of two months, enough time to extract char, vanilla and oak characteristics with just a touch of spirit character.
After aging, Show Me Sour was pulled from the whiskey barrels and blended back with fresh beer to achieve balance in a unique offering that’s our play on a whiskey sour.
At 4.3% ABV and 12 IBUs, Show Me Sour is pleasantly puckering and an excellent choice alongside burnt ends, rum cake, salads with acidic dressings and soft cheeses.
