We brought you a peek, and now the full story from Smuttynose:
With 3.5 inches of snow dusting Mount Washington on October 23rd, the tell-tale signs of what the Farmers Almanac says will be an extra cold winter are showing up in New Hampshire. I can’t tell you that we knew ahead of time that this winter would be extra cold, but it sure works out conveniently for the rebranding of our winter seasonal. That’s right: The beer previously known as Smuttynose Winter Ale is now called Single Digit Dubbel.
Why did we do it? Simply put- we wanted to clearly communicate what kind of beer is in the kegs and bottles. “Winter Ale,” while simple, is also pretty vague. This beer is not a liquid spice cabinet or a some zany idea of a “winterized” IPA. Single Digit is a classic-styled Belgian Dubbel- full of raisin and burnt sugar flavors with spicy accents contributed by the abbey-style yeast.
At the end of the day, our best option is to leave the mystery in the boxes the bundled up woman is carrying. You all have been sending us questions about their contents for years, but no one seems to know.
Look for Single Digit on store shelves and draft lines near you. If you want a leg up in the search, check our Beer Finder for a fine establishment near you.
