Armory XPA (v2)

When:             Version 2 (Hop #07270): September-May

What:             Bond Street Series (12-ounce bottles and draft)

For 28 years our Bond Street pub has served as a proving ground for experimental beers and the hops that bring them to life. Eight years ago our Portland pub joined the tradition, debuting Armory XPA and introducing craft drinkers to the previously unknown Citra hop in the process. Today this citrusy second-generation XPA takes the tradition a step further, headlining experimental hop #07270 and inviting our customers everywhere to share in this bright and refreshing beer’s judgment day. Learn how you can win a trip to a hop farm with one of our brewers and share your thoughts on the beer here.

Chasin’ Freshies: A Fresh Hop IPA

When:             October

What:             Bond Street Series (12-ounce bottles and draft)

Fans get to chase down Chasin’ Freshies in six-packs for the first time this fall! Not sure what “freshies” are? We’ll tell you! In our hometown of Bend, Oregon, winter means that we start seeking fresh, untouched powder (freshies!) on the slopes of our local ski hill, Mt. Bachelor. This pursuit of perfection is reflected as Deschutes Brewery chases down Centennial hops for this year’s vintage of Chasin’ Freshies, our fresh hop IPA. Each year, the beer features a different fresh hop from our rich, Pacific Northwest hop-growing country, and is a nod to the snow and hop enthusiasts we’ve entertained for the last 28 years at our original public house in downtown Bend.

Hop Trip: A Fresh Hop Pale Ale

When:             October

What:             Bond Street Series (12-ounce bottles and draft)

For more than a decade now, our brewers have been making the “trip” to gather fresh picked hops from the farm in order to throw the fresh harvest into the kettle to create Hop Trip, our fresh hop pale ale. The quick jaunt across the Cascade Mountains in Oregon means that Crystal hops from Sodbuster Farms go from harvest to brew in just a few short hours. The result? Fans get to start their own journey with each bottle of this pale ale and its bright floral punch to the nose. And this year, we documented the trip in virtual reality so head over to our YouTube channel later this week to experience the hop harvest at sunset in 3D.

Jubelale: A Festive Winter Ale

When:             October - December

What:             Seasonal (12-ounce bottles and draft)

Every year, a different Oregon artist wraps up our winter seasonal, Jubelale, with a piece of artwork that is as unique as the beer inside the bottle. Our 2016 vintage boasts art by Karen Ruane of Bend entitled “First Snow”. Inspired by the changes the first storm of the season brings to the local landscape, the piece captures the sense of anticipation and warm festivities that ensue in the face of winter’s snowfall. Ruane used a rare, centuries old process called marbling to create the organic design that is showcased on this year’s label and packaging. Inside the bottle is the taste of the holidays: layered flavors of warm spiciness and dried fruit with a hoppy finish.

The Collage

When:             October

What:             Collaboration Series (22-ounce wax dipped bottles)

We’ve teamed up with Hair of the Dog Brewing Company to bring you another artistic collage of cask-aging alchemy. This encore collaboration delivers layers of vanilla, caramel and molasses with roasted accents and complex malt character. This second version  magically blends The Abyss (100% aged in Pinot barrels) and The Stoic (100% aged in Pinot barrels) with Hair of the Dog’s Fred (aged in American oak and rye whiskey barrels) and Doggie Claws (100% aged in cognac barrels).

The Dissident

When:             October

What:             Reserve Series (22-ounce wax dipped bottles)

Yep, that’s right…the release of The Dissident is now an annual event at the brewery. The longing during the off years is just a distant memory, and now this Oud Bruin, a Flanders-style sour brown ale, brings us its heavenly aroma and flavor each fall.  First introduced back in 2008, The Dissident is brewed using Brettanomyces and local cherries to give it its characteristic sour taste. Fermented in isolation (partly in pinot and cabernet barrels), it is best enjoyed in company – if you feel like sharing that is.

The Abyss

When:             November

What:             Reserve Series (22-ounce wax dipped bottles and draft)

We know it’s next to impossible to improve perfection, but we’ll keep trying! For the second year in a row, we are releasing a trifecta of The Abyss – but with another new twist. First up is the classic version fans across the country have come to know and love: a barrel-aged imperial stout of immeasurable depth and complexity with hints of molasses, licorice and vanilla. To top even this gloriousness, our brewers created two additional versions of The Abyss: 100% barrel aged –respectively -  in Brandy and Scotch Whiskey barrels. These are extremely limited!
