Down the Road Beer Releasing Ninth Beer & First Lager: White Hart Helles

Down the Road Beer Co. is excited to announce the launch of its ninth distributed Craft Beer and its first Lager, the White Hart Helles (4.5% ABV). A take on a traditional German Helles, which literally translates to “Light,” White Hart is a straw-colored lager with clean
maltiness, subtle hops and a refreshingly dry finish. However, unlike a traditional Helles, the White Hart is brewed with Huell Melon hops to contribute a soft, fruity complexity that evokes honeydew melons and fresh strawberries. The White Hart Helles, which will be canned
this week, will be available this Summer and Fall and sold in 16oz cans throughout Massachusetts and on draft at select bars and restaurants.

Down the Road Beer Co. made its first official mark on the Metro Boston Craft Beer market with the launch of its signature Pukwudgie Pale Ale in April 2015. However, the company’s Founder and Head Brewer, Donovan Bailey, began brewing beer over 20 years ago as a teenager with his father. After serving for eight years in the Army, Donovan earned a BS degree in Microbiology and worked in construction and utility maintenance and installation before returning to his passion of brewing.

Down the Road brings a uniqueness to the Craft Beer market by bucking the trend to create the next craziest innovation. Instead, the company focuses on creating fresh, high quality beer, brewed locally in Massachusetts and inspired by traditional brewing techniques. Bailey explains, “With each new beer, I study the history of the style before adding a new twist, such as a new ingredient or an innovative process.” For the White Hart, this is the Huell Melon Hops. “My goal is to update traditional styles and make them more accessible to the local craft beer drinker.” Huell Melon Hops contribute a light, fruity quality to the Helles Lager – a subtle twist that adds a bit of flare to the traditional German beer.

Each beer also pays homage to a character from folklore that distinctly embodies the spirit of the brew and features original art hand-painted by illustrator Nikki Rossignol. These vibrant paintings give shape to the beer’s inspiration. The artwork for the new Helles features a White Hart, a good omen in many ancient cultures that
prophesizes happiness and success.

Down the Road is based in Everett, MA and has already sold its beers in over 600 retail outlets, bars and restaurants. The company plans to open a Taproom in Everett in early 2017 to further deliver upon its Mission to bring beer that is as Fresh and Flavorful as what you would find in any overseas brew pub ‘Down the Road’.
