From Chuckanut:
The time has finally come for the much-anticipated tap selection expansion at Chuckanut Brewery & Kitchen located at 601 W. Holly St, Bellingham. Thanks to the growing demand for Chuckanut’s European style beers, the public will now have a selection of nine Chuckanut beers on tap, instead of the six previously offered. On March 11 this expansion project will be completed which will allow space for the tapping of a Märzen (March) Lager, as well as an Irish Stout in honor of St. Patrick’s Day.
Chuckanut’s Märzen Lager is a perfect balance of a bread-like malty sweetness with a firm bitterness complemented by a deep toffee-like aroma. Märzenis a German-style beer that holds a unique history. It was traditionally brewed in March (Märzen in German) because it was too hot in the summer to brew beer before mechanical refrigeration. Märzen was kept in ice caves to remain cold over the summer months, and then brewing continued in the fall. Due to this process, it emerged into a deep golden beer with a medium body that is the Märzen Lager we are all familiar with today. Chuckanut’s Märzen Lager has received several NABA awards and a WABA award, which makes it an ideal beer to drink for any craft beer enthusiast.
Chuckanut fans can also enjoy an Irish Stout in honor of the upcoming holiday. This stout is dry, carrying an espresso-like flavor with hints of caramel and chocolate. Your taste buds will go crazy over this beer due to its full-bodied malt center that leaves a subtle trace of roasted grain. This Irish Stout will tastefully pair with Irish inspired food specials offered the entire month of March at Chuckanut Brewery & Kitchen.
Chuckanut Brewery & Kitchen, located at 601 West Holly St, was awarded the National Small Brewpub/Brewer of the Year 2009 and National Small Brewery/Brewer of the Year 2011 at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver, CO.
