Anchor Brewing - Saison Spring Ale Returns

San Francisco, CA (February 2, 2016) – Anchor Brewing Company announces

the return of Anchor Saison™ Spring Ale, a sharply refreshing Belgian-style ale

with a California twist.

Anchor Saison was first released in California in March 2014 and appeared on

the market nationwide in March 2015. Just in time for spring, America’s first craft

brewery welcomes in the season with Anchor Saison Spring Ale.

image“To me, nothing says springtime like a tangy, sharply citrusy beer,” said Anchor

Brewmaster Mark Carpenter. “We brewed Anchor Saison using two-row barley,

red wheat, and Belgian toasted wheat malt with chinook and nelson sauvin hops.

Inspired by the saisons enjoyed in rural Belgium, we put a California twist on this

centuries-old style and chose to use a locally cultured yeast. By combining these

ingredients with lemongrass, lemon peel, and ginger, we created a refreshing

springtime brew that’s uniquely Anchor.”

Inspired by the saison style that originated from the rustic farmhouse ales of

Wallonia, Belgium, Anchor Saison Spring Ale (7.2% ABV) is a traditional Belgian-

style saison with a California twist. The distinctiveness of roasted Belgian wheat

malt is enhanced by the peppery, clove-like flavors of locally cultured saison-style

yeast. Flavors of fresh lemongrass, lemon peel, and ginger add a tangy

crispness and herbal spiciness to this sharply refreshing, uniquely Californian

saison.

The Saison Spring Ale label was inspired by the imaginative and colorful beer

and fruit-crate labels from the late 1800’s depicting California scenery framed by

mouth-watering images of fresh citrus. Inspired by this timeless design, Anchor’s

label features an original, hand-colored 1873 lithograph of the Golden Gate as

seen from Telegraph Hill in San Francisco. Masterfully illustrated by longtime

Anchor label artist James Stitt, hand-drawn images of lemon and lemongrass

adorn the beer’s label.

Anchor Saison Spring Ale will be available nationwide in 6-packs and on draught

at select restaurants and bars, at the Anchor Brewing Taproom and the Anchor

Brewing Beer Garden at The Yard in San Francisco starting in February. Find a

brew near you using the Anchor Beer Finder.
