Coronado Brewing - Stupid Stout 2015 - A First Sampling

I brought you the details and even  a peek at the new packaging back in July, but I’ll admit the label (and the beer) were even better looking in person.  A big thank you to Coronado Brewing for giving us a chance to sample the 2015 version of their Stupid Stout.

Stupid Stout is part of the Crown Series from Coronado and this is the last Crown Series release in 2015.  If you’re not familiar with the name, Stupid Stout refers to the stupid amount of hops on board this Imperial Stout, but after you sample, you won’t think it’s stupid at all.  This beer uses Nugget hops to reach it’s 42 IBU and once you taste it, you’ll see what I mean.

Stupid Stout begins with roasty, chocolate-y and yes hoppy aromas, and they are backed up nicely with the rich and dark chocolate flavors.  To my palate there’s a pleasing hop presence up front, but it remains well balanced, and I suspect as you age this beer, that hop will fade out a bit too.  If you managed to hang on to last year’s version, please let me know how the two years compare.

Stupid Stout is perfect for the cold weather finally hitting the northeast, and at 9%-AbV this stout is warming and it finishes with a really nice mellow  chocolate flavor.  Mrs. BeerBuzz and I shared this one, although we both admitted later to trying to get more than our fair share of the bottle….try to share a bottle and you’ll see what I mean.

Stupid Stout is available in 22oz bottles in 13 states and 10 countries so be sure to check coronadobrewingcompany.com BrewFinder to find it near you.

Stupid Stout is a really nice cold-weather brew and one I think you will love as much as we do.  As always, be sure to try this one for yourself and let me know what YOU think.
