From The Shelton Brothers:
This time we sat down with Stephan Michel from Mahr's Bräu in Bamberg Germany. The brewery was started in 1670 and purchased by the Michel family in 1895. Stephan is the fourth generation of the family at the brewery.
The Mahr’s “gasthaus” is one of the great places in the world to have a beer. Mahr’s is a rare example of artisanal brewing in a land of increased mass production, consolidation, and narrowing of popular tastes. A larger brewery simply could not make beer like this — unfiltered, unpasteurized, and bursting with flavor. There is no cutting corners or economy-of-scale at Mahr’s.
On a side note, this video features a few shots of our late friend Ray Deter at the brewery. We miss you Ray. Cheers!
