Nick Micio Named Named Head Brewer @ Saucony Creek

imageGreat news form our pal Matt Lindenmuth at Saucony Creek:

I am happy to update you all with some exciting news. Saucony Creek Brewing has come to an agreement with a new Head Brewer and we would like you all to help us welcome new Head Brewer, Nick Micio to the family. A Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania native and Penn State Alumnus, Nick went onto study Brewing Science and Engineering at The American Brewer’s Guild and apprentice at world renowned Russian River Brewing Company.

Although born and raised in Pennsylvania, Nick’s first dabbles in brewing happened in New Hampshire more than 10 years ago in a friend’s garage as a member of the ‘Intervale Farm Brewing Consortium’. While brewing awesome beers with great friends, Nick decided to pursue his brewing as a career by enrolling in the American Brewers Guild in 2007 for a degree in Brewing Science and Engineering. To complete his degree, Nick went onto apprentice and work at Russian River Brewing Company in Santa Rosa, CA. While there Nick earned his Boy Scout Patch in sour beer making from the best in the business. Along with obtaining that mountain of knowledge, Nick found himself immersed in the west coast IPA scene. Amazed by these beers his love for the style quickly developed. Through many awe inspiring moments, mash paddle in hand, a true love of hops was born. This experience was key in crafting Nick’s current brewing style.

Upon returning to the beautiful White Mountains of New Hampshire, Nick was able to apply his new skills at the Moat Mountain Brewing Company while brewing closely with German educated Brew Master Will Gilson. When not tearing down the slopes in his telemark skis, Nick was on the brew deck expanding on some new brewing techniques, lagering beers and creating interesting and fun new recipes for the pub in North Conway, New Hampshire.

To be closer to family, Nick and his wife returned to Pennsylvania in 2009. Since then he has brewed at both award winning Fegley’s Brew Works (Allentown, PA) and more recently at Weyerbacher Brewing Company (Easton, PA). After coming from the pub setting he credits much of his production knowledge to these two facilities.

Through Nick’s journey in beer making, his wife Dori has always been by his side. After a 9- month collaborative brewing project, Nick and Dori welcomed their first child into their family in December of 2011. In his spare moments from hovering over the Mash Tun and chasing his toddler around, Nick enjoys biking, skiing, cooking and fermenting any garden vegetable he can get his hands on. He is often caught digging his hands in the fermentation crocks at home sampling some of his wild creations!

Nick is a perfect fit to our growing Saucony Creek Brewery family, we are thrilled to welcome Nick and his family into our crazy little home of beer making. Stay tuned for many fun, well crafted beer releases from Nick and the Saucony Creel brewery team.
