From Sierra Nevada and Mims:

Raleigh, NC, March 01, 2014  Previously operating strictly on the western coast of the United States in Chico, Calif., Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, the largest privately owned micro brewery in the country, shipped its first North Carolina-brewed craft beer to the Triangle on Feb. 25. Some of the Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Torpedo Extra IPAs originated at Sierra Nevada’s brand new Mills River, N.C., brewery, located just outside Asheville, N.C., and arrived at Mims Distributing Company, a beer distributor servicing the nine-country area in and around the Triangle region, at 8605 Ebenezer Church Road in Raleigh.

Since 1980, Sierra Nevada Brewing Company shipped its beers from Chico, Calif. to fans across the country. Mims Distributing Company has partnered with the company since August 1989, providing North Carolinians with Sierra favorites such as Pale Ale and Torpedo. Now, with a second brewery in Mills River, the company has a true East Coast presence and an increased brewing capacity. Because the new brewery is closer in proximity to Mims Distributing, the North Carolina-brewed beer will stop the carbon signature of five tractor trailers a month traveling from Chico to Raleigh, reduce the days of supply from 17 to 10 days by simply subtracting the time to transport the product, and provide consumers with fresher, higher quality beers.

“We are excited to work with Sierra Nevada to bring our customers the company’s very first North Carolina-brewed beers,” said Jeff Mims, chief sales officer at Mims Distributing Company. “With more people enjoying the craft beer experience and having a brewery right here on the East Coast, we can assure you that Sierra Nevada fans are receiving fresher, high quality beers.”
