Surly - Asator Viking IPA & BLAKKR

From Surly:

We're sponsoring the Amon Amarth metal show at Mill City Nights in Minneapolis on Saturday, February 8

and brewed a special limited release beer: ASATOR, a dark IPA with peated malt, fermented on oak.

Three of our production crew's favorite bands - Amon Amarth, a Swedish melodic death metal band,Enslaved and Skeletonwitch will be bringing thunder to Mill City Nights as part of the Deceiver of the Gods North American tour.

Asator - Surly Viking IPA is a beer fit for battle, fermented on oak with a ruddy brown color. The ale was brewed with peated, brown and crystal malts to create a shield wall of malt flavors, only to be hacked apart by a swinging sword of hops!

The beer takes its name from an Amon Amarth song title, and the 'shattered helm' artwork for the beer and the show invokes Ragnarok, the Twilight of the Norse Gods.

Asator will be poured first at the concert, and for a very limited time at the brewery's Taproomstarting on Wednesday, February 12. We'll also be doing concert ticket and Asator poster giveaways next week in the Taproom and on Facebook.

Three Breweries, One Beer: BLAKKR

For a few years, we've been talking with our friends at Three Floyds Brewing in Indiana andReal Ale Brewing in Texas about making a truly epic collaboration brew. A few little things (like building a new brewery) got in the way, but we all finally made time to brew BLAKKR, an imperial black ale.

BLAKKR (an old Norse word for 'dark' or 'black') is being brewed at all three breweries, and will be distributed in our own markets. Real Ale'sBLAKKR will be available in four packs of 12oz cans, Three Floyds will be packaging the beer in bombers and we'll be releasing BLAKKR in 16oz cans. The artwork for the collaboration beer was created by Surly's artist-in-residence, Michael Berglund.

Watch the Interwebs in February for our release date announcement, and announcements on the release in Texas and Chicago.

Get Mild

Mild, our seasonal English-style Mild Ale brewed with pale, brown, crystal and aromatic malts and flaked oats, started going out to bars and restaurants on Tuesday, January 28. This one's a low alcohol beer at 3.8%, so it's sessionable.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by at the Mild release party at The Local in downtown Minneapolison Tuesday. If you find Mild on tap, shout it out on Twitter using #surlymild, on our Facebook pageor on Untappd.
