5 O'Clock Brew Co Bringing Gluten-Free Brewing To Philadelphia In Late 2013

While there still aren’t a ton of details available on this new venture, I’m excited to report that Philadelphia will get an all gluten-free brewery opening by Veteran’s Day 2013.  The brewery will be called 5 O’Clock Brew Co and there are still no details on the exact location.  The brewery was started by Cory McDonald, and for now it sounds like there will be no brewpub.  Details on their founders-club can be found here and it looks like they will begin with an IPA, a Gluten-Free IPA, a dark rye IPA, a Gluten-Free Belgian Blonde, a White, a Belgian Pale, and a Milk Stout.

More details from 5 O’clock:

Fifteen years ago, I nearly lost my father to celiac disease.  Due to lack of awareness and diagnoses, he lost 50 pounds in 5 months!  We came to find out that we weren't alone.  Celiac disease (CD), also known as gluten intolerance, is a genetic disorder that affects at least 1 in 133 Americans.  The "gluten" in wheat, barley, rye, and a much lower amount in oats* (WBRO), contain particular amino acid sequences that are harmful to persons with celiac disease leading to severe gastric distress and over time a boatload of other maladies.  Basically, you can’t drink beer anymore!  WTF?!! Not long after, I read "Brewing Up a Revolution”, ran out and bought my home brewing equipment and lit the flame on this brewing odyssey.  Along the way we’ve figured out some darn good gluten free beer.  Now I get my #1 drinking buddy back.

Will you join us in getting clocked?

We know that the time is now for 5 O’Clock.  We want to give people great beer, gluten free and otherwise, and to those that have lost it, bring back the joy of beer.  God’s greatest creation! We are driving hard on opening 5 O'Clock Brew Co., Philly's first and only Gluten Free brewery. In addition to gluten free brews, 5 O'Clock will be brewing a full line of gluten full beers.

Set your alarm for 5 O'Clock early in 2014.

5 O'Clock. A time with great meaning to sooo many! Quitting time, beer O'Clock, time to get the F outta Dodge. To us it means it's always time for great beer crafted by beer nuts and great gluten free beer crafted for those that miss it or have never known. When we're not day dreaming of being rock stars, we make great beer, no BS!
