Meet The Dirty Firkins, Victory’s very own brewery band!

Q: How long has Victory Brewing Company had a band?
A: About 6 years now. We originally went by the Victory Brewer’s Blues.

Q: How did you come up with the name Dirty Firkins?
A: Jimmy Breeding saw a sign that labeled a palate of firkins as “dirty,” and he thought that would be a great band name.

Q: Who is in the band?
A:
John Bair, Safety and Training Manager: Guitar & Vocals
Jimmy Breeding, Warehouse Lead: Guitar
Matt Couch, Brewer: Guitar
John Fusco, Equipment Maintenance Mechanic: Percussion
Jeff Goodno, Brewer: Guitar
Clay Jenkins, Fermentation Manager: Drums
Kevin McGovern, Senior Brewer: Bass

Q: Who has been playing the longest?
A: John Bair – playing for 34 years, longer than the rest of the band has been alive. Well, not really.

Q: What were the first instruments you played?
A: John B: Trumpet
Jimmy: Guitar
Matt: I remember having a kazoo and a harmonica when I was like four years old. Then I moved on to piano but didn’t stick with it. I think I was pretty awesome at the kazoo.

Q: If you could be any rock star, who would you be?
A: John B: I would wish to be no one else but me.
Jimmy: Pete Townshend

Q: How do you feel about more cowbell?
A: For it.

Q: Favorite band to cover?
A: CCR.

Q: Favorite beer to drink while rocking out?
A: Any beer that is in our hands.

Q: Do you play weddings, Bar Mitzvahs and other private engagements?
A: No. Charity only.

Q: How high do your amps go?
A:
These go to 11.

Q: What gives your band the winning edge?
A: Whole flower hops.

Q: How would you describe your sound?
A: Hopeful and/or aspirational.

Q: Who are your major influences?
A: CCR, Zeppelin, Jimmy Page and Hendrix.

Q: What are the perks of being in the band?
A: Having Rob Pine as a groupie is a perk. Doesn’t get much better than that.

Q: If you could witness any concert/festival past, present or future, what would it be?
A: Woodstock or the last Zeppelin tour.

Q: If you could invent a musical instrument, what would it be?
A: A keyboard set up with cats on it. When you pull their tails, they each make a different note.

Q: What is the diet and workout regimen for Battle of the Brewery Bands?
A: Drinking lots of beer. Watching Clay play the drums makes you feel like you’re getting a workout.
